The attacks on minorities-Muslim and Christian places of worship has proceeded with unabated in the Modi raj as one more church was allegedly vandalized yesterday night in Agra in Uttar Pradesh and statues of Mother Mary and Baby Jesus were damaged.
The St Mary’s Church in the Agra cantonment region was allegedly broken into late last night. Father lazarus, a priest of the church, says he found the vandalism after he was awakened from his sleep by a car alarm. “Around 3.30 am, I heard the alarm of my car. When I turned out, I found all four doors of the car open and the wind-screen was smashed,” said the priest.
Another priest came out and found damaged statues of Mother Mary and Baby Jesus, Father Lazarus said. This is the latest in a series of attacks on churches and other Christian buildings in the last few months. The religious intolerance of the ruling BJP has been highlighted off and on and even the visiting President of US Obama had voiced his worry over such acts in his farewell message.
