Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi has finally returned from his 56-day sabbatical today. According to sources, Rahul Gandhi arrived in Delhi at 11.15 am on a Thai Airways plane from Bangkok. The plane, which was scheduled to land at 10.35 am, was delayed by 40 minutes. Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and her daughter Priyanka reached the 12, Tughlaq Road residence of Rahul to receive him.
Rahul was in Yangon, Myanmar at a famous meditation retreat centre, a tabloid has reported. Before moving to the Yangon, he was in Ubon, Thailand, a famous Buddhist meditation monastery. He was supposed to return on Wednesday night but his connecting flight from Bangkok was delayed, hence he arrived on Thursday morning.
Earlier on Wednesday, Congress leader Chacko had hinted that the Congress vice-president will return to Delhi on the evening of April 16.
“Our vice president is coming back to join the (farmers’) rally. He has made appointment with many leaders and he is joining back,” said Chacko while answering questions during an AICC (All India Congress Committee) presser.
The 44-year-old Congress leader has been on a leave of absence since the Budget Session of Parliament that began on February 23. Rahul’s absence came amid intensely fluid political season that saw his mother and party president Sonia leading the opposition’s protest against the controversial land acquisition bill that sought to scrap the existing requirement of securing 80 percent consent from farmers before acquiring land.
Rahul Gandhi had been under attack from rivals as well as from within the Congress over its continued losses in all the elections since the Lok Sabha polls last year.
