Is Modi Slowly Losing Popularity On FB?

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a firm believer in the power of social media and that is the reason behind his extensive campaigning on Facebook and Twitter during 2014 elections. He is one of the most 'liked' politician on Facebook with over a 2.8 crore fans. But the latest reports reveal that he is slowly losing the faith of his followers and getting 'unlikes' in return.

Looking at his Facebook fans count, they grew from a mere 23 lakh likes to more than a crore likes in a span of one year. At the time of his swearing in as PM, Modi has 1.55 crore fans on Facebook. With consecutive wins at Haryana & Maharashtra, and respectable wins in Jammu Kashmir & New Delhi elections, the count grew to 2.79 crores. But with the latest Land Acquisition row and Farmer Suicides, the popularity of Modi has taken a hit and this reflected on the Facebook count.

As of now, the count is 2.78 crores after getting around one lakh 'unlikes' in last few weeks. On the other hand, BJP's national communication cell has called this as a technical issue and asked the fans not to worry. "Facebook is known to clean the inactive LIKES regularly and Modi losing 1 lakh likes was a part of this drive. This doesn't reflect anything and is not an indicator for Modi's charisma," said Arvind Gupta, BJP leader.

Whether Modi gets to know about this or not is a big question now. If he does, he might get a clear picture about the recent disappointments and can act upon them.
