Indians Waste Half Of Their Time On Chatting

According to a survey by the popular Swedish telecom equipment maker Ericsson, Indians spend nearly 47% of their time chatting on communications apps such as WhatsApp, Skype and even on several social networking platforms Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus and YouTube. The report further says that the internet usage is more rampant on the smartphones.

The reports say that communication apps like WhatsApp, We Chat, Hike and Skype are the key drivers of mobile broadband usage in the country due to their 'always on' status. The research sample represents nearly 7,500 Android smartphone users in India. Nearly 40-50% of data usage of mobile broadband is consumed by communication apps, while for video sharing, it is a mere 20%.

The Ericsson also carried out its survey in Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the US, analysing app usage behaviour using on-device measurements with a prime focus on how communication is influenced by the social media apps across several countries, including India.
