Hero Venu who is suitable for action films, somehow became popular through comedy and sentimental films. He proved to be an actor with difference with his perfect timing in films like 'Swayamvaram', 'Chirunavvuto' and 'Hanuman Junction'. He turned into a good character artiste with Jr. NTR's 'Dammu'. His latest flick 'Ramachary' hit the screens two years late. Let's examine if it spread laughter or made audience feel sorry for having walked into the theatre.
Story: Rama Chary, born in a police family aspires to become a police officer. He becomes a CID and how he stops attempts on the life of the Chief Minister is the story of 'Ramachary'.
Analysis: This film is a remake of Malayalam hit 'CID Moosa'. Eswar of Allari Naresh's 'Siddu from Srikakulam' fame directed the film. Though the film was launched 3 years ago, due to hiccups, the project got delayed and finally hit the screens on May 17. However, though there some good artistes with comedy timing and craze in the film, 'Ramachary' has to be termed as a failure attempt of director Eswar. The director's failure is glaring with the selection of a wrong scene as the very takeoff scene for a comedy film. It appeared that he did not find it necessary to correct his mistake and threw the entire responsibility of correcting his mistakes on the shoulders of editor Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao and released the film. Though there are some good punch dialogues like 'Time Baavunte Time Bomb Kooda Sahayapadutundi' and some good comedy chase scenes like in the film 'Nirmnayam' to provide laughter, it looked like the film would have been a hit if it was released 15 years ago. Hero Venu however enthralled with his good timing. He was good in two songs also. Heroine Kamalini with zero size, was sans expression and looked a wrong choice.
But for Brahmanandam as 'Chinta bava and Ali as 'Ganguli, half of the audience would have run out of the theatre in the first fifteen minutes. Murali Sarma as Villain and M Balayya as Chief Minister were boring despite donning two key roles in the film. In some scenes audience would wonder if the security of a Chief Minister would be so bad as was shown in the film. By attempting comedy in some serious scenes, the director became a laughing stock. Though it was good to make a dog don the character 'Arjun', people would surely wonder if there should be so much of vulgarity in the dialogues of hero and heroine, for the sake dogs. But for Velu, CID office comedy and pre-climax car change with the Chief Minister in the second half, audience would be eagerly waiting for the end card. Mani Sarma's rerecording is OK. One should salute producer Shyam Prasad for striving hard to bring the picture before the audience even belatedly. Instead watching the film now, paying Rs. 70 per ticket, it would be wise to watch it on the small screen where it would be available in just a month.
Punchline: Ramachary : This is a late Failure Story.
